Through the Bio Monitoring project scientific data such as flow, water quality and health of marine habitat is collected on several of the major rivers within our traditional land use area.
Partnerships are crucial to the success of our Bio Monitoring research project and we work jointly with Manitoba Conservation and the Department of Oceans & Fisheries. Their technical support is utilized to train our community members in the assessment of water quality, monitoring of accurate fish and marine counts and to ensure that our fragile river eco-systems are maintained. This in turn promotes traditional ecological knowledge about our river system and banks to the youth of our community.
The benefits of this project extend beyond the borders of our First Nation as communities and other First Nations who share our area are provided data as it is collected for the development of their own community based ecological, environmental and conservation plans.
